Terms of Use

Sept 29, 2026

Welcome!

Thanks for being here! a10d (pronounced "attend") helps kids own their attention and develop the skills, mindsets and relationships they need to flourish in a media rich, AI-driven world.

These terms cover everyone who uses a10d.org or takes part in a10d: people who join our waitlist or fill out our interest form, families, Leaders and Mentors in a10d live sessions, and our Youth Advisors and their parents or guardians.

Our privacy promise comes first because it applies to all of you, the same way. After that, you'll find what's specific to each way of being part of a10d.

Effective date: July 13, 2026. a10d, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. EIN: 42-3822453

‍

Our privacy promise (for everyone)

We do not sell, rent, trade or share your personal information, or your child's, with anyone outside a10d. This is true whether you've joined our waitlist, registered for a live session, or signed on as a Youth Advisor.

By personal information, we mean anything that could identify you or your child: names, email addresses, phone numbers, zip codes, and photos, video or audio of you.

In some cases, we record a10d sessions to help others learn about us and learn how to attend. In these cases, we collect special permission for filming and for specific uses of participants’ likeness.

‍

What we collect and why

We only ask for what we need to run a10d and stay in touch with you.

  • If you join the waitlist via our Interest Form, we collect name, email, zip code, role, how you heard about us, your ideas and questions. This allows us to keep you posted and let you know when a10d is ready for your community.
  • If you apply to pilot a10d, we collect the above, plus phone, contact preference, city and state, and your answers (text or audio). This allows us to review your application and reach out to start a conversation.
  • If you take part in a local group with live sessions, we collect contact info for each participant and their parent or guardian, attendance, responses to session prompts, at-home challenge progress and/or Mentor training progress. This allows us to run sessions safely, support each group, and improve the program.
  • If you join the Youth Advisor program, we collect contact info for each advisor and their parent or guardian, and advisors' responses to prompts. This allows us to send prompts, hold advisor sessions, and shape a10d content and experiences.
Who has access
  • Our a10d team can see registration and contact information for everyone in the program.
  • Your local Leaders can also contact kids and families to coordinate meetups. They can also see how kids take part in their group (attendance, responses to prompts, at-home challenge progress) and how their Mentors are progressing in training. They use this only to run their group.
  • The secure tools we use to run a10d (e.g. Jotform, Typeform, SimpleTexting, Zoom) store information for us. They hold it on our behalf and aren't allowed to use it for anything else.

The only other times we would ever share personal information are if the law requires it, or if we need to keep someone safe in an emergency.

What we learn and how we share it

We learn so much from all of you, and we share what we learn, never who said it. Any data we share outside a10d is de-identified or combined into patterns, so no one can be identified.

We may share these learnings with our evaluation partners at Delta Consulting Group, with aligned organizations and researchers, in our writing (like our Substack), with communities of practice, and back with everyone in the a10d program.

Your name and likeness

We will not use your name or likeness, or your child's, beyond the a10d program without asking for and receiving your explicit permission first.

No ads, ever

We don't show ads, and we never use your information for advertising or marketing by anyone else. Our website uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. It does not identify visitors personally.

Keeping it safe and keeping it short

Only the people who need personal information can access it, and we use secure platforms to collect and store it. We keep personal information only as long as we need it. When someone leaves a10d, we delete their child's personal information within 3 months, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.

Your choices

You can ask to see, fix or delete your information, or your child's, at any time. Just email us at hey[at]a10d.org.

If you join our waitlist or apply to pilot
  • No commitment. Joining the waitlist or applying to pilot a10d doesn't commit you to anything. You're simply raising your hand.
  • How we'll use your answers. We'll let you know when a10d is ready to bring to your community, follow up if you've applied to pilot, and use what you tell us to understand what communities want from a10d. If you check the box when signing up, we’ll add you to our Substack mailing list so you can follow along there, too.
  • How we'll reach you. We'll contact you about a10d using the contact information you’ve provided. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by emailing hey[at]a10d.org.
  • Text messages. You can text “STOP” at any time to stop receiving text messages from us.
  • Video responses. If you respond to an a10d prompt in video format, we will not share that outside of the a10d team without your explicit permission or the permission of a parent or guardian for anyone under 18.
Ages 13 and up. Our interest form is for adults and young people 13 or older. If you're younger than 13, please ask a parent or guardian to fill it out with you. If we learn that a child under 13 has sent us information without a parent's permission, we'll delete it.

‍

If you take part in a10d live sessions

Live sessions bring together a10dees (attendees), teen Mentors and Mentors-in-Training, and adult Leaders, with parents and caregivers close by.

  • Parent or guardian agreement. Before a young person joins, a parent or guardian completes our registration and agreement form. Typing your full name on that form counts as your signature, the same as signing by hand.
  • Voluntary participation. Your child's participation and your participation are completely voluntary.
What we expect from Mentors. Mentors complete video-based training (about 2 hours total) and attend monthly a10d meetup sessions. If a Mentor can't attend, they'll message their group's Leader by both email and text.
  • What we expect from everyone. Show up as your true self and attend to our a10d Norms. We all help to make sure everyone can do our best work and everyone feels able to fully engage.
  • Safety. Every session follows our Live Session Safety Guidelines. For example, we never run a session, or any part of one, with only one Leader or Mentor present. If someone is hurt or there's an emergency, we'll respond first and contact the parent or guardian right away.
  • Photos and video. We film a10d sessions to help other a10d groups learn to run the program, and these images (moving and still) may include your child. We share them only with other a10d groups. We won't use them more broadly without asking for and receiving your explicit permission first.
  • What's said in the group stays in the group. We establish and reinforce the confidentiality of ideas shared in each group.
  • Payment. Mentoring is an unpaid volunteer role, but Mentors do receive some things, like a10d t-shirts, which are theirs to keep.
  • Agreement. A parent or guardian must complete our acceptance form to participate in any live sessions offered by the a10d team. Adults who use the a10d curriculum and training as they implement a10d in their schools, clubs, centers or communities may use their own agreements and waivers. To see an sample of an
  • a10d agreement form. Click here to see a sample Attendee form and here for a Mentor form.
  • Right to withdraw. You can withdraw your child and yourself at any time. Just contact your local a10d group's Leader by email and text, and we'll take steps to remove your child as soon as possible.

‍

If you take part in our a10d Youth Advisory program

Our Youth Advisors (ages 10 to 18) teach, inspire and cocreate with us.

  • Confidentiality. The information that you or your child share in the Youth Advisory Program will be handled confidentially and with great care. We will also establish and reinforce the confidentiality of ideas shared between youth advisors.
    ‍
  • Voluntary participation. Your child's participation and your participation are completely voluntary.
Program expectations. Advisors reply within one week to prompts we send by text every week or two, and join quarterly Zoom meetings. If an advisor can't complete something, they'll message to let the a10d team know.
    ‍
  • How we use what advisors share. Advisors' ideas and feedback inform the content, curriculum and culture we create for a10d.org, always under our privacy promise above.
    ‍
  • Payment. The Youth Advisory Program is an unpaid volunteer program, but advisors do receive stickers and a10d t-shirts, which are theirs to keep.
    ‍
  • Right to withdraw. You can withdraw your child and yourself at any time. Just email Meghan Fitzgerald at meghan@a10d.org, and we'll take steps to remove your child as soon as possible.
    ‍
  • Agreement. Both a parent or guardian and the youth advisor complete our acceptance form. The parent or guardian agrees to their child's participation, including texting back and forth with the a10d team, and to receive texts themselves. The advisor confirms they're ready and excited to take on the role.

‍

Texting with a10d

We use a secure platform called SimpleTexting to send and receive text messages with Youth Advisors, Mentors and parents or guardians, at the numbers you give us on your agreement form.

  • What you'll get. Advisors and attendees receive prompts every week or two, plus occasional reminders. Mentors and parents receive session updates and reminders as needed.
  • Message and data rates may apply. We don't charge for texts, but your mobile carrier's rates apply.
  • Stop anytime. Reply STOP to stop receiving texts. Reply HELP for help, or email hey[at]a10d.org.
  • Your number stays with us. We never share your phone number or your permission to text with anyone.
  • To change the number we text, email our team at hey[at]a10d.org.

‍

Kids under 13

Some of our programs include kids ages 10 to 12. We only collect a child's personal information with a parent or guardian's permission. Parents and guardians can review, change or delete their child's information, or withdraw permission, at any time by emailing hey[at]a10d.org.

Changes to these terms

If we make a meaningful change, we'll update the effective date at the top. If you're in one of our programs, we'll let you know directly before the change applies.
